Durham Region Birth Photographer | As a lifestyle photographer I get to be a witness to some of people’s most defining moments, and that’s especially true when I’m asked to photograph a birth. It feels almost surreal to get to be a part of something so sacred, surrounded by talented and skilled professionals who are helping to bring new life into the world.
When this family asked me to photograph their home birth in Bowmanville, Durham Region I was thrilled, but also nervous, because mom had a history of very fast births and I knew I’d need to be ready the minute she felt like baby was on the way. When I got the message letting me know that the midwives were heading over, I grabbed my gear and hopped in the car, and got there in time to watch this beautiful mother labour so confidently, with the support of her husband and midwifery team New Life Midwives in Bowmanville. I messaged her later letting her know what an inspiration she was, and even now a month later, I keep thinking back on her strength and courage as she brought her little miracle out to meet the world. It’s times like this that make me so especially grateful for what I do.
